Travelling anywhere in the world you always want to be able to be in contact with family and friends without paying extravagant prices for global roaming or purchasing prepaid sim cards or calling cards.
Here are my favorite top 5 apps that I currently use.
WhatsApp- $0.99: Can be used across iPhone, Nokia, Blackberry and Android. Works the same as sending someone a text message but is free once you download the app you can chat (including group chat), send pictures and videos and share your location with anyone around the world without having to pay international roaming fees. All you need is to be connected to the internet or Wi-Fi and away you go, even if you are off-line WhatsApp will save your messages until you come on-line.
I have personally used this app for over the last year and have used it all around the world, it has given me the best way to keep in contact with my family and friends all over the world and as it allows multiple smart phone usage you get to be in touch with more people
Skype – Free: Call, video call, group video calls and instant message anyone else on Skype for free, can be loaded on iPhone or iPhone touch and now iPad, compatible with mobiles, PCs, Macs or Skype –enabled TVs. You can create an account with automatic credit card top-ups if you want to call anyone else for a low rate that is not on Skype and now days most businesses and companies have Skype numbers activated.
Living a long long way from home Skype is by far the best way for me to see my family and friends everyday even have dinner with them or a wine or two.
Textie – Free: Similar to Whatsapp but is only compatible across iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, Textie allows you to text your heart away for free to anyone else that has the Textie app. Functions allow you to send pictures and emails, and if you’re in the U.S you are able to send messages to most mobiles. Replies come straight back to the app, so you can use Textie with anyone, even if they have installed the app or not. The free version of Textie is sponsored by a seamless integration with Fusion ads; you can switch them off for $1.99.
I started using Textie when I didn’t have an iPhone (WhatsApp does not work on iPod Touch), it is simple and easy to use.
Facebook – free: Facebook pretty much speaks for itself; Facebook has made the App available to 2500 different Java-enabled mobile devices. Facebook for iPhone lets you stay connected and share with friends on the go. Start a chat, keep up with friends’ photos and status updates, and look up a phone numbers, upload photos to Facebook and more— right from your phone.
I am a Facebook addict I have the app on my iPhone and iPod Touch and I am permanently logged on my Mac, I keep in contact with all my friends across the world in different time zones and for those night’s when I can’t sleep I know I will have someone to talk to.
Facebook Messenger- Free: Facebook Messenger is a faster way to send mobile messages to friends without having to be logged into Facebook. The app allows you to send and receive messages and photos with any one you have in your mobile contact list, chat with friends who are on Facebook, get notifications for incoming messages, create group conversations for making plans on the go and control alert and location settings for each conversation. Messenger app is available on iPhone, Android and BlackBerry.
I have only just downloaded the Messenger app so I will give an update at a later stage, so far I like it simple and easy to use.
