Exclusive Riviera Maya and Cancun vacations

  1.   One of my favourite street foods to eat here in Cancun is churros pumped full of chocolate or custard or both. My shopping mall Downtown Plaza Las Americas has a churros stall right at the front entrance, perfect place after doing the shopping.

    Venturing to Downtown Cancun

Does the thought of leaving the grounds of your resort to venture to downtown sound scary or daunting? It can be if your not prepared for what to expect, Cancun is not a big town and there is buses (pay between 6 to 8 pesos per ride) and taxi’s everywhere and most drivers can speak some English.

Once you leave the hotel zone and arrive downtown you have local shopping malls, Walmart, and markets for local produce Market 23 and for more tourist items like handcrafts go to Market 28. So what to expect when you venture to market 28 (Mercado veintiocho), you will be confronted with lots and lots of stalls / shops all side by side with the shop owners standing out the front inviting you to come into their shop. If there is something in particular you are after you will more then likely find it here there is endless stall of silver jewelry, traditional clothes, pottery and artworks and don’t be afraid to discuss the price with the seller they all want to make a sale.

When it comes to eating downtown thankfully most of the places have nice pictures on their menu and some have English menus, just ask. One of the main things I love about eating where the locals eat in Cancun is the price you can eat like a king and queen with drinks and pay around $20 and the quality of the food and service is outstanding, even if you don’t feel like Mexican food you will be catered for.

Another good reason to venture out of the hotel zone is that by shopping and eating locally you help support the locals, currency excepted is both Mexican peso and USD.Down town Cancun at night.
